Board by board, joint by joint
Drywall inMönchengladbach
Set the studs, board them, fill the joints. MK-AUSBAU builds walls, wall linings and suspended ceilings that stand straight and are handed over ready to paint.

The board is a component
A drywall wall is made of studwork, boarding and joint. Each of the three layers decides whether the finished surface stays flat, absorbs sound and holds in a fire.
- Stud
- Boarding
- Butt joint
- Cavity
- Studwork
- Track at floor and ceiling, studs in between, reinforced posts at door openings. The spacing of the studs decides how stiff the wall ends up being.
- Boarding
- Boards in the standard format, single or double layer, screwed on with staggered joints. The second layer brings mass, stiffness and a great deal more quiet.
- Cavity
- Mineral wool between the studs acts as the spring between two leaves. Leave the cavity empty and it becomes a drum.
- Joint
- Fill, bed the tape, skim again. Only the joint turns two boards into one surface, and that is exactly where the cracks show up later.
NoteThe drawing shows the principle. Which build up belongs in your room is settled by the survey on site.
Four levels, one decision
How smooth a surface has to be is not decided by the fitter but by whatever goes on it later. Tiles forgive almost everything, a gloss paint in raking light forgives nothing.
Q1
Basic filling. Joints and screw heads are closed. The surface disappears behind tiles later on.
Q2
Standard filling. Transitions are levelled and trowel marks taken off. The usual base for woodchip paper and textured coverings.
Q3
Special filling. Pores are drawn out wide and the surface becomes calmer. Right for matt paint and fine wallpaper.
Q4
Full surface skim. The whole face is covered so that gloss and raking light find no joint at all.

Tell us what goes on the wall. We will tell you which level that needs, and write it into the quote.
Send an enquiryWhat we build in drywall
From a single wall lining to a complete room layout in a new shell. Built dry, with no screed times and no weeks of drying.
- Partition walls
- A new room layout in an existing building or in a new shell. Studwork, boarding, clean junctions at floor, ceiling and wall.
- Wall linings
- A second leaf in front of the existing wall: for services, for insulation, or to bring a crooked old wall back to straight.
- Suspended ceilings
- A grid of channels on direct hangers. Room for services, ventilation and recessed lights, at whatever height you need.
- Sound insulation
- Separated leaves, insulation in the cavity, sealed perimeter joints. Mass and spring instead of one rigid board.
- Fire rated build ups
- Wall and ceiling build ups with a fire resistance of F30 to F90, executed to the tested system of the manufacturer.
- Jointing
- Q1 to Q4, also as a trade on its own over boarding somebody else put up. Fill, bed the tape, skim, sand.
NoteNot sure what your room needs? Describe the situation briefly and we will settle the rest at the survey.
Six details, and the quote becomes solid
Most drywall enquiries are incomplete, and then every follow up question costs both sides a day. With these details we can calculate instead of guessing.
- Place and floor, plus the access: staircase, lift, somewhere to stop outside.
- Room dimensions and room height, roughly how many square metres of wall and ceiling.
- What should be built: partition, wall lining, suspended ceiling or jointing.
- Any requirement for sound insulation, fire resistance or wet rooms, as far as you know it.
- Two to five phone photographs: the whole view, a detail at a junction, the access.
- Your timing, so that we can suggest a realistic date.
NotePhotographs matter more than perfect dimensions. Whatever is missing we measure at the site visit.
How the site runs
Drywall runs in beats. Every step has to be finished before the next one starts, or the mistake travels into the surface.
- Survey
- Site visit, take the dimensions, check the substrate and the junctions, settle the material.
- Framing
- Align the profiles, seal the junctions, set the stud spacing, reinforce the door openings.
- Boarding
- Screw the boards on with staggered joints, lay the insulation, cut the openings cleanly.
- Jointing
- Fill, bed the tape, skim again, sand, until the agreed level is reached.
- Handover
- Inspect the surface together, leave the site swept clean.

The company behind the surface
MK AUSBAU Innenausbau & Sanierung is an interior fit out company from Heinsberg. Maxim Kelm started out as a drywall fitter in 2016. Drywall is still the trade everything else grew out of.

A surface is finished when nothing shows up in raking light.
Maxim Kelm, founder and managing director
- Drywall
- Partitions, wall linings, suspended ceilings, sound and fire rated build ups.
- Jointing
- Q1 to Q4, over our own boarding and over other people work.
- Interior fit out
- Insulation, flooring and painting, when a room has to be finished in one run.
- Refurbishment
- Strip out, prepare the substrate, build up again, including in occupied buildings.
NoteThe company is based in Heinsberg and works across the western Rhineland. Mönchengladbach is part of the regular service area.
Where we work in Mönchengladbach
Mönchengladbach is large and the distances inside the city are short. We take on work in every district and drive out to the neighbouring towns as well.

What customers ask first
The questions that come up most often before a drywall quote.
01How long does a partition wall take?
That depends on the area, the junctions and the agreed level of finish. A simple wall usually stands in a day, and the filling then needs drying time between passes. We give a reliable time frame after the survey.
02Which level of finish do I need?
The later covering decides. Q1 is enough under tiles, Q2 is the usual base for woodchip paper, Q3 suits matt paint and fine wallpaper, Q4 is the full surface skim for gloss finishes and raking light. Tell us what goes on the wall and the level goes into the quote.
03How much sound insulation does a drywall wall give?
More than most people expect, when it is built properly. What matters is two separated leaves, insulation in the cavity and sealed perimeter joints. A rigid connection between the leaves, or an open joint, undoes most of the effect. Which build up makes sense in your case depends on how the rooms are used.
04Can you work in an occupied building?
As a rule yes. Drywall needs no screed times and no weeks of drying. Dust still happens, when cutting and when sanding. We sheet up, work in sections and hand the surface over swept clean.
05Do you take on jointing on its own?
Yes. We also fill boarding that somebody else put up. First we look at the framing behind it, because no joint stays closed for long over a substrate that moves.
06What does a square metre of drywall cost?
That can only be answered honestly after the survey. The price depends on the wall height, on one or two layers of boarding, on requirements for sound and fire, on the level of finish and on the access to the site. With dimensions and photographs you get a quote that shows those points separately.
